Why Should You Consider Property Investment in the United Kingdom?

Despite rising interest rates and potentially falling house prices, coupled with the pressure from the cost of living crisis, increasing energy bills and the Russian-Ukraine situation, there are predictions that 2022 is the year for property investment.

The legacy of a robust property market in 2021 with the significant increase in ‘staycations’, which boosted the appeal of short-term lets, together with a projected economic growth of 3.6% in 2022 has prompted the rising interest in property investment opportunities. So, should you be considering property investment in the future?

Why property investment?

Inflation is going up; interest rates are increasing; energy prices and the cost of living crisis are hitting people hard, so why invest in property? A recent survey has discovered that most people still believe bricks-and-mortar is the best investment asset class in the UK despite all of this.

Finder’s new survey revealed that 29.6% of people in the UK believe that property will be the investment that performs the best in 2022. The property market certainly bucked the trend during the pandemic, and whilst many thought it would slow down towards the end of 2021 and into 2022 when the Government’s Stamp Duty Holiday came to an end in September 2021, it didn’t. In fact, the opposite happened, and property demand, as well as prices and rentals, have continued to increase steadily.

Currently, and following on from a 9% increase already forecast, Savills is predicting there will be a further rise in property prices of 3.5% in 2022. But as analysts believe that prices will reach their peak of 21.5% by 2025 – and rental incomes of 17% by 2025 – the opportunity to earn an income from a long-term property investment is now.
